Bangladesh government has eliminated its long-status ban on rice exports on Thursday, aiming to sell as much as 1.5 million tonnes to support farmers following a drastic drop in home costs, the u . S .’s agriculture ministry said.

Last week the authorities raised import duty on rice to fifty five% from 28% to help its farmers amid sizeable protests over a drastic fall in domestic expenses.

Bangladesh, historically the world’s fourth biggest rice manufacturer, banned export of a few commonplace rice types in May 2008 after a spike in domestic charges. It banned all rice exports a year later.
