Government has prolonged regulations on import of Pulses like Yellow Peas, Green Peas and Kaspa Peas for a duration of any other three months from January 1 to March 31, 2019. The statement has been made in a notification by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
The flow is mainly to inspire the domestic production of Pulses and reduce import dependency.
The current restrict on import of peas is scheduled to cease on December 31. In September, the government had extended import restrictions on Peas for a 3-month duration.
India is the largest producer of Pulses within the global. In 2018-19, Pulses production stands at 24 million tonnes, that is marginally up from 23.Ninety five million tonnes in 2017-18.
