Government has procured approximately 13.14 lakh tonnes, 18.32 lakh tonnes, and 33.14 lakh tonnes of pulses from the farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) at some point of 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 (upto 03.12.18) respectively, according to facts from the ministry of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.

Of the whole inventory of pulses procured with the aid of the Union Government, 34.88 lakh tonnes is offered to States/ Union Territories for utilisation beneath various welfare schemes like Mid-day-Meal (MDM), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Public Distribution System (PDS), and so forth. This subsidy will be available to States/ Union Territories at the aforesaid stock as much as September 2019 or till this inventory lasts, whichever is earlier. Some of the States/ Union Territories have indicated their requirement of pulses underneath this scheme, the ministry stated.

As of now, the discounted price offered by the Union Government is beneath the procurement fee. The discount presented on the inventory might entail a subsidy outgo of Rs 5232 crores on 34.88 lakh tonnes of pulses.

Based on the requests of the States/ Union Territories, the Union Government procures up to twenty-five% of the actual production of pulses from the farmers at MSP inside the respective States/ Union Territories beneath the Price Support Scheme (PSS), the ministry stated.
