Maharashtra sugar czar slaps seizure notices on 68 generators

The Maharashtra sugar commissioner has slapped notices on sixty eight sugar turbines that have failed to pay a Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) to farmers. These sugar turbines owe ₹1,320 crore in FRP to cane farmers.

The Sugarcane (Control) Order, 1966, stipulates payment of the cane price inside 14 days of supply, failing which interest on the charge of 15 in line with cent in step with annum on the quantity due for the not on time length beyond 14 days is payable.

Sugar Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad had lately issued notices to fifty four turbines, and now, every other 14 generators were added to the listing. The Commissioner’s office warned the generators that if they fail to reply to the notices, the government could capture their residences and sugar shares to get better dues and pay them to farmers.

Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader and MP Raju Shetti said that his enterprise changed into making plans to release an agitation towards district administrations for no longer initiating moves against the defaulting turbines. Shetti said that it became the duty of the district management to put in force the orders and take motion towards sugar mills.

Sugar generators had been pronouncing that excess sugar manufacturing and depressed home sugar prices have led to accumulation of cane price arrears.

Sugar manufacturing in India remaining sugar season (2017-18) was about 322 lakh tonnes, that is the highest manufacturing so far inside the country.

Sugar production inside the current sugar season (2018-19) is predicted to be about 315 LT, which is sort of on the same stage because the preceding season.
